Sam Cox is a Guyana International defensive midfielder currently playing for Wealdstone in the National League South on a non-contract basis. Aged 25, Sam is a strong, quick and aggresive defensive midfielder - also capable at playing right back - who learnt his trade at Tottenham Hotspur’s youth academy in which he was U16s captain. He was rewarded by signing his first professional contract for Tottenham in 2009/10. Sam then went on loan to Cheltenham and Torquay United.
After leaving Spurs, Sam joined Barnet and subsequently went on loan to Boreham Wood where he was named Players’ Player of the Year. Having left Barnet by mutual consent, Sam joined HAyes & Yeading United and was given the captain’s armband for the 2012/13 season and went on to win the Supporters’ Player of the Year.
The following season Sam re-joined Boreham Wood where he would spend the next three seasons making over 100 appearances. Success included promotion in the 2013/14 season via the play-offs, Herts Senior Cup and Chairman’s Player of the Year.
His appearances didn’t go unnoticed as he was called up by the Guyana national team for the World Cup qualifiers and helped progress in the second round of the Carribean Cup in the 2015/16 season.
